It's normal to have minor problems come up when wearing braces.
Here are some ideas for handling them!
|
Braces
Parts:

|
General
soreness: although the brackets are not
actually sharp, they might feel sharp when you first get your braces
on. Your soft tissue will rapidly toughen up and the irritation
problems should end by the third or fourth day. You may experience
soreness in the mouth, particularly on the inside of the cheeks.
An aspirin or two may be taken every four hours if the tenderness
is severe. Wax can be liberally placed on the brackets to cushion
the irritating effect. |
| Loosening
of teeth: loosening of teeth is a common
occurrence throughout the treatment period. This should be regarded
as normal and should not upset you. The teeth will again become
rigidly fixed following removal of appliances. They must loosen
first so they can move to their new positions. |
| Irritating
wires: if a wire protrudes and is irritating,
take a blunt instrument (the back of a spoon or an eraser end of
a pencil) and carefully tuck the irritating wire under the archwire
and out of the way. Wax may be placed on the wire to cut down on
the abrasion. If irritation to the lips or the mouth continues,
call our office and come in for correction of the problem.
|
| Loose
wires: if a wire or band becomes loose,
do not become alarmed. This does happen occasionally. Call our office
as soon as possible and make an appointment to have the appliances
checked. If any piece comes off, place it in an envelope and bring
it in with you on your next appointment. |
